Purchasing a Puppy from Boru

Joining the Boru Family

All of our puppies are lovingly hand-raised in our home and exposed to a variety of people, stimuli and of course our resident Hounds (and cats too!). We typically only plan a breeding when we want to keep something for ourselves, which means we may produce one, maybe two, litters a year.

All of our breeding dogs are health tested for genetic conditions, adhering to the codes of ethics set out by the American and Canadian Bloodhound Clubs. In addition to the health testing, the majority of our dogs have earned (or are working towards) their Canadian Championships. What does this mean? It means that impartial judges have deemed our dogs excellent representations of the Bloodhound breed and that they meet the breed standard.

What's Included

Puppies are sold on a contract and the cost is $2,500 CDN. They are microchipped, registered with the CKC and will have received their first vaccine and vet exam. They also come with a one month free insurance trial through Trupanion.

Matching Puppies to Families

When we have a litter of puppies it is not first come, first served. No puppies are ever designated to specific families until they have been seen by our vet at 7-weeks of age, and then assessed and evaluated by myself and other comrades in the breed. It is crucial to match puppies with the proper homes as not all puppies are destined for the same type of home. Puppies typically join their new families at 9 weeks of age.

Deposits

We do not take deposits before families are fully screened nor do we take deposits before puppies are born. We do not feel it is right to hold onto people's money on a whim. We also would not want someone to follow through with getting a puppy they may be having second thoughts about because they don’t want to lose a deposit.

Choosing a Breeder

  • Buying a dog is a lifetime commitment and buying a dog from a responsible breeder is a lifetime relationship
  • Please be advised that not all breeders are reputable or ethical
  • Not all breeders perform health clearances
  • Price doesn’t always reflect quality
  • Please ask for proof of health clearances from breeders who do not list them on their websites

Older Dogs May Be Available

Our contract requires dogs (no matter the age of the dog) be returned to us if an owner can no longer keep their puppy. We have very few dogs returned to us but in rare instances we may have older puppies or dogs available, that for whatever reason, were not a good fit in their first home. Oftentimes the return is in no way the fault of the dog. Life circumstances can change for any of us.

Our criteria for a home is dependant on what the individual dogs needs. If you are interested in an older dog, please complete our application form.
